The entire Rock River Valley has adversely affected by the fire at the Chemtool factory in Rockton. One of the concerns is whether any contaminants or pollutants might be flowing into the Rock River. In an effort to promote the safety and environmental health of the river, Through it's 501c3 non-profit organization, Full of Life Rivers, Buckbee Weed Company and Sustainable Innovations are implementing a water-based phytoremediation project to assist with scrubbing the river of any heavy metals or pollutants.
The Buckbee Weed Co. is a hemp grower and retailer in Rockford. We would like to do our part in assisting with the clean-up effort and ensuring the public that our air and rivers are once again safe. One of the many uses for hemp is phytoremediation- the plant is exceptionally good and drawing pollutants up out through its roots.
In land applications, hemp has proven to be somewhat inefficient since most of the pollutants are trapped in the root system, so digging the entire root ball out of the ground is required to complete the remediation.
Hemp can also be grown using hydroponic methods, which allow the roots to go directly into water. In this system, the rhizofiltration would actually take place on a waterway, and the roots would be far easier to collect and dispose of.
Your contribution will enable us to support our community affected by this terrible disaster. We are very grateful for your generosity.
